Sharing the Importance of Agriculture with Montana Schools

It is vitally important that young people have a better understanding of the contributions of agriculture to their lives.  and to the nation's economy.  Agriculture is the single largest industry in the nation.  From truck drivers to steel makers to checkout counters, more jobs depend on agriculture than on any other enterprise.  World food production and distribution, foreign trade policy and current issues are all part of the story of agriculture.  Yet few of the nation's students comprehend the relation of agriculture to the very aspect of their lives.

Agriculture in The Classroom and Agriculture in Montana Schools is a cooperative effort of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, of educators and of representatives of agricultural organizations throughout Montana as well as the entire nation.  The common goal of that al these groups is to provide young people with a better understanding of the crucial role of agriculture.  The program is primarily a sharing of ideas and projects that have proven successful in the brining the story of agriculture to the nation's school children and teachers.

In an attempt to encourage educators, agriculturalists, and other interested groups to work together in the developing a coordinated, statewide effort to put agriculture back in the classroom, AMS provides free, factual teaching tools to Montana teachers.  We are not interested in promoting specific commodities of furthering any political point of view, but rather we wish to create an understanding of the importance of agriculture to the life of the nation and of Montana agriculture's relation to the rest of the world.
